The British Airways i360

Client: Brighton & Hove City Council with Marks Barfield Associates

Completion Date: July 2016

Design of landscaped areas surrounding the proposed British Airways i360.

The British Airways i360 is currently under construction and due to open in July 2016. This iconic 160m high development on Brighton Seafront was recently awarded the Guinness World Record for the most slender tower in the world. It has been designed by London Eye architects Marks Barfield Associates.

Fiona Atkinson has been appointed by Brighton & Hove City Council and MBA as Lead Designer for the public spaces east and west of the i360. References to the geometry and history of the historic West Pier which previously sat on the site is visible in the designs, which integrate seamlessly with the surrounding seafront landscaping.

To the East is The Piazza containing a selection of West Pier cast iron columns arranged in a Golden Spiral set within an open, flexible circulation space suitable for large numbers of visitors. The Event Space to the west allows for a flexible outdoor entertainment programme throughout the year. The scheme also includes distinctive , bespoke granite seating.

Construction of the landscaping will take place during late 2016.
